Yvon Labarre was born in Bouée in 1943. He grew up on the farm but did not have much taste for agricultural work. After the studies certificate he decided to become a house painter! He attended the Lycée Brossault in Saint Nazaire where he met a teacher who offered him tubes of colors. He studied decoration in Tours and began to paint pictures for his pleasure.
He worked in Nantes then did his military service in Sedan in 1961. Back in the region, the many trips related to his job allowed him to make valuable contacts in the field of art and decoration.
In 1968 he moved to Rennes. At the same time, he followed evening classes in Fine Arts. He continued to progress in his artistic research and found the subjects which subsequently retained him. It was in the school of abstract and tactilist painting that he acquired a taste for texture and material which led him to use the knife, that of clear structures and a rigorous selection of colors. In 1977 he decided to devote himself entirely to painting and in 1978 set up his studio in the family home in Bouée who died in 2008.
