The concept "Ma (space)" in Japanese architectural theory emphasizes the meaningful existence of empty space. She feels that the artistry and affinity of "Ma" can be adapted to photography by capturing unwarey things and even increase the value of such things. To fully accomplish that purpose, she purposely ignores the rules of perspective and uses monochrome film which can strengthen the contrast between dark and light.
