The Artist

Somsak Hanumas is a native of Bangkok, where he spent his childhood and most of his adult life. Initially destined for an engineering career, he joined the Royal Institute of Technology of Ladkrabang, but will never forget his first passion, painting. Young graduate, Somsak decides to hang the brushes and give free rein to his vocation and will never separate from his art ever again. He has been painting for more than 15 years thanks to a technique he has learned as an autodidact.

Landscapes, Lines and Points

After painting a background on the canvas, Somsak adds many colored dots, which he sprinkles the canvas following a gradient whose general idea is engraved in his mind. After this step, Somsak, using a finer brush, draws lines of lines overlaid on the points, covering the whole of the canvas. This work, therefore length and repetitiveness, requires extreme patience, suits him perfectly - he gives him time to reflect on the meaning of his painting and, still further, in the sense of life and the passing time. A canvas requires an average of 8 to 12 weeks before being completed. Often, Somsak also paints landscapes that have marked him - a Bangkok beach, a monsoon field, the edge of a jungle - adding a personal touch to his technique. It is up to the observer to perceive - or not - the landscape that appears in filigree behind the lines and points.
