Presentation

I believe in broken molds and creative chances. I paint in the Intuitive and love to mix patterns, drips and color with intention. I find acrylics in all forms to be a happy medium.
The Intuitive painting process is a very unique way for creating. The canvas is submerged in an array of markings, doodles, drips, stencling, and acrylic paint. All of these moments allow for creative opportunities. Once I sit down to paint, the canvas pulls me in the direction it wants to go. I do some intention setting with color, and imagery, but in the end, I am always surprised where the canvas leads. Each painting is truly one of a kind, it would be impossible to replicate the happenstance of the markings and the Artist that I come to the canvas as, is never the same from day to day.
ABOUT DALENE WOODWARD
Dalene Woodward lables her art as both intentional and intuitive. She begins a piece with a color palette or a certain image in mind, and then follows her intuition and imagination, making drips, drags and marks to achieve the final painting. The colors are striking and bold, and the narratives are whimsical and lighthearted. There is a fairytale quality to the work, and a focus on the female character. The women appear strong and confident against their dreamlike backdrops and vibrant patterned outfits. Bright colors and patterns, and artists such as Gustov Klimt and Peter Max inspire Dalene. The black outlines and delicate faces of the women provide a vintage feel. The seated figure in Hotel California is reminiscent of 19th Century depictions of Parisian life, such as the woman drinking in the cafe' in Edgar Degas's L'Absinthe. With a fresh sense of adventure and childlike joy, Dalene captures and reinterprets the romance of modern figurative painting.
