Miroslava Romanova

Miroslava Romanova was born in Simferopol, Crimea. From an early age, she showed an interest in drawing – a passion, which her mother supported by enrolling her in art school by the age of seven. As a child, Romanova used to peruse her uncle's medicine library. Partial to the illustrated pathology books, she was fascinated by the images of disease and injury and was deeply interested in medicine and anatomy. 

A rebellious teen, Miroslava was kicked out from school at the age of thirteen for doing graffiti on the entire wall of the school. However eventually, given her prowess in art, she decided to study in an art college, where she pursued The Fine Arts from 2006-2009. During her studies, Romanova was chosen to work on one of the biggest development projects in the city, where she was charged with designing the façades and lobby interiors of six residential buildings and one business center. Her overwhelming success on this project earned Romanova a position as the lead Interior Decorator and Art Director at one of the biggest development company's in Ukraine, which she took after graduation. 

This sedated her for a period of time. Meanwhile, the political situation in 2014 was hard for Ukraine. During the revolution, Russia took Crimea, so the place Romanova once called home was forever changed. In 2015 Romanova decided to move to New York so that she could work towards creating her brand as an artist. She arrived alone and with no money in her pocket. Despite not knowing anyone, she was absolutely confident about her decision to become a world-renown contemporary artist. During her short time in New York, Romanova has already won over the favor of several collectors who have supported her. 

In 2016, she held her first solo show at collector and friend, Nouriel Roubini's – a famed American Economist – a loft in downtown New York. A success, 9 of 12 works were sold. All of her art is erotically charged. Anyone seeking to learn more about Romanova should attentively peer at her works and from there seek to recognize who she is and what she is about. 

A firm believer that art, freedom, and creativity will change society faster than politics, Romanova considers herself a citizen of the world – one that doesn't subscribe to labels, and who is committed to the belief that art is a process wherein which imagination collaborates with memory.

Romanova is currently pursuing an M.F.A. in Fine Arts at the New York Academy of Art. She finds inspiration in German expressionists, Renaissance painters, and Gothic artists. She is currently at the MANA Contemporary as a resident.
