Description
Skateboard designed by Indonesian artist Roby Dwi Antono
Edition of 50, signed by laser engraving on the back.
Numbered out of 50.
Dimensions: 80 x 20 cm
This intriguing artwork adorns a skateboard deck with a striking monochrome design. It depicts an expressive child with an intense gaze, holding a mask in their right hand. The child's hair is neatly styled, framing a face whose expression blends serenity and defiance. Dressed in a long shirt, the child is barefoot, adding a touch of vulnerability to the scene.
The meticulous use of black on white highlights the delicate features and exaggerates the palpable emotion. This artistic choice prompts reflection on identity and duality, underscored by the symbolic mask.
The board's simplicity enhances the artwork's visual impact, lending this utilitarian object a captivating artistic dimension.
Presentation
Roby Dwi Antono, born in 1990, is a contemporary Indonesian artist. He is inspired by Mark Ryden, the founder of Pop Surrealism, and the iconic Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. By fusing the aesthetics of surrealism and classical Renaissance imagery in his own way, he produces a very distinctive contemporary art.
Antono's paintings typically depict children with enigmatic, glowing eyes and mythological creatures. There are also allusions to pop culture, such as the icons he admires, Jerry Lorenzo, Tyler The Creator and Takashi Murakami. Whatever the subject, Antono always aims to convey a message in his paintings, which all have a very personal signature.
