Description
A striking architectural vision unfolds before our eyes.
The artist composes an urban landscape where perspectives fade in favor of a dense and fragmented arrangement.
The black line, affirmed and precise, delineates geometric shapes that pile up and interlock.
The restricted use of acrylic creates a striking contrast between the luminous white of the facades and the depth of a neutral gray sky.
The spatial organization evokes an organic, almost living city, where each building seems to grow upon the preceding one.
The broken lines and abrupt angles suggest a structural tension, while the small windows rhythmize the composition.
This graphic approach transforms the city into a complex puzzle, mixing abstraction and urban recognition.
The whole exudes a raw visual force, carried by an economy of chromatic means.
This 2016 creation is distinguished by its formal rigor and its balance between void and full.
The final rendering emphasizes the texture of the acrylic on the support, accentuating the relief of the black lines.
Presentation
Bashir Qonqar is a Palestinian artist whose work explores human behaviour, social relationships, cultural conventions, and the psychological effects of personal and collective experience. Working with painting, drawing, digital art, mixed media, and installation, he combines figurative imagery with irony and dark humour to examine the contradictions of contemporary life. His practice uses satire as a way of questioning social norms and reflecting on the complexities of human behaviour.
Born in Beit Jala in 1980, Qonqar studied social sciences in Germany before returning to Bethlehem in 2007. Alongside his artistic practice, he has worked in social rehabilitation, public relations, and art education, including teaching at Dar Al-Kalima University. His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Palestine, Europe, South Africa, the United States, and more, including projects at Al Ma’mal Foundation for Contemporary Art and Al-Sakakini Cultural Centre. Qonqar currently lives and works in Austria.
