Description
This artwork is a masterful exploration of abstract expressionism, distinguished by its dynamic interplay of color and form. At first glance, the painting presents a grid-like pattern composed of a series of rectangular blocks, each filled with a complex array of muted tones—earthy greens, deep blues, and warm browns—that evoke a sense of both tranquility and depth. The artist employs a fluid brushwork technique, allowing the colors to bleed into one another, creating a mesmerizing visual rhythm that guides the viewer's eye across the canvas. Notably, the translucent layers of paint provide a sense of depth and texture, suggesting a multi-dimensional space beyond the surface. This transparency injects a feeling of ethereality, as if the colors are suspended in a delicate balance. The subtle variations in hue and saturation within each rectangular section create a harmonious yet intriguing contrast, inviting viewers to explore the intricate nuances of each segment. The artwork's composition is balanced yet unpredictable, challenging traditional grid arrangements with an organic touch. This deliberate deviation from symmetry imbues the piece with an abstract harmony. The overall effect is both calming and intellectually stimulating, inviting contemplation on the intersection of order and chaos, structure and fluidity. This painting stands out in its ability to blend simplicity with complexity, harnessing the power of abstraction to evoke emotion and thought. It exemplifies the artist's skill in manipulating form and color to create an immersive and thought-provoking visual experience.
This work is a part of a series of 10 pieces, they can be purchased together to display.
Presentation
Peter Delahaye is an abstract artist, painting from studios in Venice and Bangkok. He is
very experimental in his approach. He is an able watercolourist, and also teaches plein air landscape
painting in workshops held in locations such as the Venetian lagoon and the Extremadura in Spain. One
participant reckons it’s the best watercolor landscape five-day course she has ever taken. He is self-taught
and says he has the gift of ‘carrying color in his head’. He creates small watercolor and mixed media
works on paper (including miniatures), soap designs developed into carpets, and large multi-panels of
acrylic. During 2016-2019, Peter has been working on a number of large multiple panel commissions for
specific sites. Some of these have been creative wall pieces and headboards for beds. The last four years
have seen outdoor painting trips to France, the West Coast of Ireland, different parts of Italy, Spain and
Switzerland.
