Description
This contemporary abstract expressionist nature painting was created by French artist Natalya Mougenot and is part of her ongoing series dedicated to nature. For Natalya, this series is deeply personal — it reflects her continuous exploration of the emotional and spiritual relationship between people and the natural world. Her aim is not to depict nature realistically, but to capture its feeling, its essence, through her expressive and intuitive style.
“When I portray nature, I feel a freedom that truly liberates me. I breathe in the scent of early summer, just as it lives on this canvas. Here, nature is captured in that fleeting moment before the heat strips away all its greenery,” Natalya shares.
Titled "Finding Serenity in Nature," this painting beautifully reflects that fleeting moment of early summer — when the land is still lush, before the sun strips it bare. Created in her Lyon studio during the summer of 2024, this work speaks to the universal longing for stillness, balance, and reconnection in our fast-paced urban lives.
“I believe that everyone living in a crowded, bustling city is meant to find those precious moments alone with nature. It is there that we can reclaim the energy we lose amidst the noise and rush of urban life.”
Rendered in oil on stretched cotton canvas, the artwork measures 50 x 70 x 1.5 cm (approximately 19.7 x 27.5 x 0.6 inches) and is ready to hang. It radiates calm and quiet strength. The sky, painted in soft, luminous blues and greens, dominates the canvas — inviting the viewer to breathe deeply and pause. Gentle mountains in muted greys and blues anchor the background, while rich green forests and earthy red accents create contrast and energy. A light green field in the foreground provides a sense of space and openness, drawing the viewer into the scene.
Natalya's technique — bold, spontaneous brushstrokes combined with subtle color transitions — emphasizes her core artistic value: authenticity. Every painting is a genuine emotional response, not a calculated reproduction.
“As I worked on this piece, my mind was filled with the serenity that nature gifts us. I felt a profound sense of connection, stillness, and peace — a reminder of our need to find harmony both with the world around us and within ourselves.”
"Finding Serenity in Nature" is more than a landscape — it’s an invitation to slow down and reconnect with something timeless. Mougenot's ability to distill emotion into color and movement makes this work a powerful reminder of the restorative power of nature.
The painting comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and is shipped worldwide, carefully packaged to ensure its safe arrival.
Presentation
Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
