Description
This compelling abstract composition presents a dynamic interplay of architectural forms and raw emotional energy, created by Richard Solstjärna in 2022.
The work demonstrates a masterful layering of translucent washes and gestural marks that evoke both structured geometry and organic decay. Dominated by a cool palette of deep blues and grays, the composition is punctuated by vibrant accents of golden yellow and burnt orange that radiate from within the composition like internal fire or illumination. The artist employs a technique that suggests multiple exposures or overlapping transparencies, creating a sense of movement and temporal compression across the surface. Architectural elements—possibly a tower or fortified structure—emerge from the atmospheric haze, their forms fragmenting and reconstituting as the eye travels across the canvas. The white negative space functions as both ground and void, allowing the viewer's perception to shift between solid and ephemeral elements. Splattered marks and gestural drips enhance the sense of urgency and spontaneity, while strategic white highlights create visual anchors throughout the composition. The work succeeds in balancing control with improvisation, suggesting themes of transformation, resilience, or the coexistence of order and chaos. This piece exemplifies contemporary abstraction's capacity to convey complex emotional and conceptual narratives through purely visual means, inviting viewers to project their own interpretations onto its evocative formal language.
Presentation
Richard Solstjärna is a Swedish contemporary artist whose work exists at the intersection of art, philosophy, spirituality, and science. His paintings transcend conventional abstraction by exploring the invisible energies that shape reality.
Drawing inspiration from abstract expressionism, Japanese calligraphy, Zen Buddhist aesthetics, and concepts from quantum physics, Solstjärna has developed a distinctive artistic language that speaks to both the emotional and intellectual senses.
Exhibitions in Europe, New York and Odessa. Including Solo, group exhibitions, Art Fairs and Biennials. Won prizes and Awards during the years. Represented in international art dictionaries and art books. International Press and media coverage over the years. Solstjärna's works can be found in numerous national and international permanent collections.
"In my paintings the Energy and Forces which are immanent in Nature are visualized. Forces at work in maximum self-sufficiency. Primary, undiluted, full of tension. Never at ease always in the moment. A pulse in rhythm and rhyme. Emerging from a Void, an emptiness and silent space which is the source of its origin." - Richard Solstjärna
