Description

This round painting depicts a multitude of ballerinas in pastel tones, dressed in white and pale pink tutus, at the moment of preparing for a performance.
The composition shows a large number of ballerinas filling almost the entire space of the circle. They are arranged in groups, interacting with one another, perhaps helping one another. The ballerinas are busy doing their hair, which points to a moment of preparation. The painting is constructed so that the viewer sees a wealth of details, such as their gestures, their hairstyles and the folds of their tutus. The composition is fragmented through overlapping figures: the dancers' bodies and their surroundings create an impression of volume, and the viewer's gaze passes through them into the depth of the image.
The main subjects of the image are the ballerinas, each presented with her own individual features. The ballerinas' figures differ in position. Their expressions are soft and calm, mostly focused. Their poses convey a sense of preparation and calm concentration. The ballerinas' costumes (tutus) are light and airy, rendered in pastel tones, which creates a sense of tenderness and lightness.
The artistic style of the painting is realistic, using painterly techniques that achieve tenderness and light. Soft tonal transitions lend the painting a special atmosphere. The execution is meticulous and detailed. The work is painted in oil. The color scheme is dominated by pastel tones, including various shades of white, gray and pale pink.
The painting depicts the moment before a performance. The lighting creates a soft, calm atmosphere that is reflected in the color tone of the whole painting. Chiaroscuro helps render the figures and their volume. In the background there is a sense of space. The overall atmosphere of the painting is calm, focused and inspiring.
