Description
The gallery is featuring an exceptional work by JLasveguix
Technique: Mixed media using torn posters (de-gluing)
Support: Paper mounted on a black background
Signature: Signed by hand in the lower right corner
Authenticity: Original work
With "Facing Death," Lasveguix follows in the tradition of urban takeover, a direct heir to poster artists and the raw language of the street. The artist composes a fragmented scene from torn posters, revealing beneath successive layers a vintage iconography dominated by the worlds of motorcycling and cinema.
Several faces emerge at the center of the composition:
A female figure in a green helmet, with a worried and cinematic look.
Helmeted pilots, including the number “52", a symbol of speed and competition.
Typographic fragments – – which give the whole a dramatic tension.
Lasveguix does not stick, he reveals. By tearing away the material, he brings to light the memory of the walls, the layers of time and the popular aesthetic of street posters.
The black background acts as a museum-like setting, isolating the urban fragment and transforming it into an autonomous work of art. The irregular contours retain the raw energy of the original wall, while the composition remains visually balanced.
In this intimately sized piece (40 x 30 cm), Lasveguix captures the very essence of the street: accumulation, erasure, reappearance. Each tear becomes a pictorial gesture.
Facing Death is a visually striking work, blending popular culture, urban memory, and the aesthetics of the fragment. It will appeal to collectors with an appreciation for contemporary urban art and the expressive materiality of decoupage.
Presentation
Guillaume Picart, known as Lasveguix, is a French artist from Seine-Saint-Denis, who began his artistic career as a graffiti artist under the pseudonym of Guix along the Canal de l'Ourcq, when he was teenager. After a break in artistic creation, he returned to his passion in 2022 and is currently working on the production of numerous works in various media, mainly inspired by the influence of pop art.
Lasveguix is directly inspired by Jacques Villeglé and Raymond Hains, and uses photographs of famous faces as well as torn posters to create his paintings. He then covers these supports with graffiti and splashes of paint, which gives life to colorful and powerful works, reminiscent of sections of urban walls torn from the street.
His artistic signature is based on his ability to give relief and volume to his paintings. He cultivates a real taste for the texture and material of torn paper, thus creating an impression of movement, by superimposing successive layers of paper.
