Description
This composition plays with visual perception. The image fragments into colored squares. The gaze then reconstructs the female silhouette. The nude becomes a geometric enigma.
The artist uses an approach inspired by digital art. The pixel replaces the fluid line. This technique creates a dialogue between classical art and the digital age. The flesh tones intermingle with the neutral tones of the background.
The style is in line with the Pop Art movement. The figure is suggested rather than described. This partial abstraction invites interpretation. The subject slowly emerges from the chromatic grid.
The execution mixes oil and acrylic. This mixture of materials brings a subtle depth to the color blocks. The light seems to filter through the pigment blocks.
The work dates from 2024. It explores the tension between the hidden and the revealed. The tight framing accentuates the intimacy of the scene. The composition relies on a play of contrasts between the light areas and the surrounding darkness.
Presentation
Marie KVK is an international artist born in Minneapolis in 1980. She began her painting career in New York City in 2004 after completing a BFA High Honors in Minneapolis and Madrid in 2002. The artist has traveled the globe and worked for many long periods in the urban settings of New York (2004-2009), Paris (2009-2010) and London (2010-2014) using a variety of materials (including oil paint, acrylic paint, airbrush , spray paint, neon lights, laser stencils, photographic collages, epoxies and resins).
Since 2014, his workshop is located in Provence, France.
Marie KVK's paintings are about “regrouping to reveal". The Pixels series unveils powerful female characters, who are historical icons. His cinema paintings reveal the smallest element possible and the suggestion of a deeper discovery.
