Description

Original work

Pop Toy Creation is an original work by the French artist PVettese, created in mixed media on canvas, in the format 50 × 70 cm.

In this composition, the artist revisits with humor and energy one of the most famous images in the history of art: Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam. The iconic gesture of the two hands approaching without ever touching is transposed here into the contemporary world of toys, through two characters inspired by Lego figurines.

On the left, a character with brown hair reaches out a hand towards a second figure, represented on the right in a posture directly recalling the composition of the Sistine Chapel fresco. The rapprochement between a major reference from the Renaissance and the immediately identifiable aesthetic of a toy creates a deliberate contrast between art history and popular culture.

The characters occupy a large part of the canvas and stand out against a deliberately raw and abundant background. Graffiti, handwritten inscriptions, drips, projections, spontaneous lines, and superimpositions come to deconstruct the classical aspect of the initial reference.

The palette is multicolored and particularly dynamic, mixing notably yellow, bright pink, orange, purple, green, turquoise, black, white, and different more subdued tones. The vertical projections and drips reinforce the Street Art energy of the whole, while the numerous signs, words, and traces give the surface the appearance of an urban wall progressively covered with graphic interventions.

With Pop Toy Creation, PVettese thus confronts several universes: classical painting, the toy culture, Pop Art, and contemporary Street Art. The quotation from Michelangelo remains recognizable, but it is deliberately détourned and reinterpreted through the artist's graphic language.

Technique and particularities of the work

The work is entirely worked by hand in mixed media on canvas, through different layers, collages, pictorial interventions, projections, graffiti, superimpositions, and material effects.

The surface may deliberately present irregularities, roughness, reliefs, variations in texture as well as differences in thickness related notably to collages, superimpositions, and different layers of material. These characteristics are sought after by the artist and are an integral part of the creation process and the aesthetic of the work.

They do not constitute defects or deteriorations of the work.

The work measures 50 × 70 cm and is sold without a frame.

PVettese has her works included in many private collections around the world, notably in Europe, the United States, China, Mexico, and Australia. The artist is rated Akoun and Drouot and won the Public Prize in 2020.

The work is accompanied by its certificate of authenticity (COA), signed and embossed dry by the artist.

It is packed with the utmost care and shipped securely, with tracking and signature upon receipt.

Presentation

Priscilla Vettese aka PVettese, a contemporary Parisian artist born in 1985, develops a unique universe at the crossroads of Pop Art, Street Art and emotional abstraction.

Her work explores the tension between pictorial chaos and visual tenderness, between innocence, popular memory, and the contemporary world. Through her works, she confronts figures from pop culture, childhood and the collective imagination with more raw environments, saturated with signs, colors, matter and symbols linked to our time: consumption, luxury, money, speed, desire or social pressure.

While Monet inspired him with the vibrancy of light, it is more the emotional intensity of Van Gogh that permeates his compositions: a vivid, vibrant, almost electric color, placed at the service of a sensitive pictorial chaos This energy also engages with the gestural freedom of Joan Mitchell and the instinctive strength of Basquiat, from whom it retains the raw momentum, the signs, the contrasts and the expressive tension.

PVettese mixes acrylic, aerosol, oil pastels, markers, collages and mixed media to create striking works on canvas, cardboard, but also in three dimensions, through 3D sculptures and collages. Her backgrounds, constructed by superimpositions, drips, projections and graphic fragments, are never simple decorations: they reveal the emotion, the inner movement and the atmosphere of each work.

In her home, pop icons are not used as mere decorative images. They become emotional anchors, bearers of memory, fragility, humor, or resistance in the face of a more chaotic world. Innocence is never naive: it becomes a gentle, almost vital force in the face of image saturation and the tensions of reality.

Winner of the Audience Award at the Rosny Arts Festival in 2020, PVettese is also known for her murals at Les Frigos and Spot 13 in Paris, as well as for her exhibitions at the ERBK gallery. She currently exhibits in France, the Netherlands and the United States, and her works are part of private collections in France and internationally.

Committed to social causes, she regularly participates in charity auctions, notably with Faire ma p'art and Humy. Blending pop culture, urban energy, and poetic introspection, PVettese creates a free, sensitive, and powerful contemporary body of work, where color becomes emotion and innocence emerges as a response to the chaos of today's world.
