Description
This oil composition plays on a balance between abstraction and organic suggestion. The eye is immediately drawn to a set of rounded shapes, evoking petals or cellular membranes. These elements are arranged around a deep purple heart, creating a marked contrast with the acidic, luminous green background.
The gesture is sure, fluid. The material accumulates in generous touches, bringing a tactile relief to the surface. Shades of pink and red punctuate the space, instilling a vital energy into the whole.
The artist structures the canvas through a play of circles and curves. A white and ochre base anchors the composition, while a circular halo envelops the central forms. This visual device creates a sensation of blossoming, like an organism caught in full unfolding.
The work explores the tension between the softness of the curves and the force of the saturated colors. The final rendering oscillates between the dream and microscopic observation. The signature and the date appear discreetly in the bottom left of the support.
Presentation
Mohamed Abusal is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores everyday life in Gaza through painting, photography, video, installation, and conceptual art. His work often begins with familiar experiences such as restricted movement, limited infrastructure, and shortages of basic resources, transforming them into imaginative and sometimes humorous artistic ideas. By moving between reality and fiction, Abusal creates alternative ways of thinking about mobility, technology, freedom, and daily life.
Born in Gaza in 1976, Abusal initially studied accounting before turning to art and design and developing his artistic practice independently. He has been active in Gaza's contemporary art scene and is a founding member of Eltiqa, an artists' collective established in Gaza. His projects often imagine alternative forms of infrastructure and movement, including A Metro in Gaza, which proposes a fictional transportation network connecting different parts of the Strip. Abusal has exhibited widely in Palestine and internationally and currently continues his artistic practice from his art studio in Marseille, France.
