Description
A geometric composition where color blocks interlock rigorously. The canvas fragments into rectangles and squares, creating a visual balance game. The eye circulates between earthy tones, deep greens, and an intense blue.
The background is structured by zones of marked contrasts. A light blue ornamental pattern appears, reminiscent of traditional architectures. Next to it, a red organic shape brings a break in the linearity of the whole.
The acrylic work is distinguished by its precision and sobriety. Each colored area seems to delineate a distinct space, almost architectural. The artist explores here the tension between abstraction and cultural references.
The light seems to emanate from the upper white part, contrasting with the dark tones of the top. This 2026 painting offers a reflection on space and fragmentation. The whole rests on a rich and controlled chromatic palette.
Presentation
Khaled Hourani is one of the most influential Palestinian multidisciplinary conceptual artists. He is also a curator, writer, and cultural organiser whose practice explores everyday life, movement, borders, and the relationship between art and society. Working across painting, photography, installation, sculpture, and conceptual projects, Hourani often uses familiar objects, situations, and cultural references to consider how political conditions influence everyday experience. His work combines humour, imagination, and critical reflection to question ideas of access, mobility, and cultural exchange.
Born in Hebron in 1965, Hourani studied History at Hebron University in 1987. Alongside his artistic practice, he has held important positions within Palestinian cultural institutions, including the Palestinian Ministry of Culture and the International Academy of Art Palestine. His project Picasso in Palestine, which brought a work by Pablo Picasso to Ramallah in 2011, became an important example of his interest in borders, movement, and access to art. Hourani continues to work as an artist, curator, and cultural organiser across Palestine.
