Description
Deep textures meet a muted palette in this evocative oil painting. The artist employs broad, energetic brushstrokes to blur the line between representation and abstraction. Forms emerge from the shadows, suggesting a quiet interior scene. A glass and table surfaces are rendered with a tactile quality that captures the weight of solitude.
The composition relies on a stark contrast between deep blacks and luminous greys. A sudden flash of pale yellow brings a flicker of light to the foreground, grounding the composition. This visual tension reflects the artist's fascination with emotional narratives and the unseen connections between objects.
Influenced by the fluidity of human movement and physical theatre, the artwork treats the canvas as a stage. Every stroke feels intentional and rhythmic. The figurative elements dissolve into a symphony of movement and mood. The scene transforms a simple moment of everyday life into a poignant meditation on memory. Soft gradients and sharp edges coexist, guiding the eye through a landscape of atmospheric depth. This piece captures a fleeting sensation of loss and stillness through its heavy impasto and somber tones.
Presentation
Sa Hara is a Korean artist born in 1975 who lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. She is graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration at Dongguk University. Through Physical Theatre, the artist explores how characters reflect one another, expressing freedom and imagination through bodily performance. With a keen interest in the movement of the human body, observations are transformed into unique works that convey the unrestricted freedom of the mind. Each work contains a narrative, featuring characters and networks of relationships. These relationships are not confined by social or legal structures but instead reflect a worldview of relative freedom. Using the non-verbal language of bodily movement, the characters perform as if on stage, reflecting each other, becoming aspects of one another, and giving rise to thoughts and actions, thus existing through each other and forming the whole. The artist draws inspiration from human movement, real-life stories of relationships, fictional novels, and videos on Instagram and YouTube. Plants, books, music, dance, and various forms of art also provide intellectual stimuli, which are combined with imagination to create the works.
