Description
This abstract composition explores the powerful tension between opposing chromatic fields. A deep, nocturnal black anchors the lower half of the canvas. This dense mass suggests a grounded weight or a silent horizon. Above it, a luminous expanse of burnt orange radiates warmth. The intersection of these two zones creates a sharp, vibrating boundary. A thin sliver of vivid red separates the dark from the light. This detail adds a sudden surge of energy to the stillness.
The application of paint reveals a structured yet intuitive approach. Soft gradients merge into solid blocks. The artist utilizes color as a primary language to evoke distant memories and imagined landscapes. Influence from visual media is evident in the cinematic atmosphere. This artwork balances a minimalist geometry with a profound emotional depth. Each layer of pigment contributes to a sense of atmospheric place. The result is a meditative dialogue between shadow and light. The gaze is drawn to the precise point where darkness meets a glowing sky.
Presentation
Yulia Bulashenko (1990) is a Barcelona-based visual artist working primarily with abstract painting. Her practice explores color as a language through which to approach memory, emotion and the perception of place. Her compositions bring together organic and archetypal forms, intuitive gestures and shifting chromatic relationships, drawing from ancient visual languages and imagined landscapes.
Her background in film and visual media has influenced her approach to atmosphere and visual composition. In recent years, her work has evolved towards larger scales and a more material and research-driven practice, exploring the relationship between landscape, pigment and place through photography and experimentation with natural elements.
