Description
The oil spreads here with a raw frankness. The knife shapes the material in thick layers. The forms intertwine in a downward movement. The orange saturates the space and creates a sharp contrast with the cool tones. The grey-blue and white bring a luminous breath to the heart of the composition.
The gesture is fast. It is instinctive. The contours remain open and suggest a physical tension. The neutral beige background leaves all the room for the dialogue of colors. The paint still seems alive under the effect of the relief.
The technical execution favors sensation over precision. The movement guides the eye towards the bottom of the canvas. This painting of 2026 explores the balance between force and surrender. Each cut of the blade unplans the surface. The final rendering is characterized by a marked impasto and abrupt transitions.
Presentation
François Sauvage is a self-taught artist whose particularity is the modeling of leather. After spending fourteen years in art workshops in Paris, he developed a unique technique that allowed him to shape life-size leather figures. Exhibited and sold all over the world, this particular mastery earned him to collaborate in the renovation of prestigious places where his decoration proposals combined aesthetics and refinement.
Since 2021 he has devoted himself entirely to his passions: clay and painting.
His large-format paintings impose and reveal a palette of colors that are sometimes soothing, playful with a pure lightness, at the same time powerful, deep and sensitive.
