Description
Figure inspired by Victor Hugo's quote: “Learning to read is like lighting a fire; every syllable pronounced is a spark."
With this powerful metaphor, Victor Hugo presents the act of learning to read, not only as a technical skill or a simple educational step, but as an inner awakening, a revolutionary act that ignites the mind and spirit.
Reading is not just recognizing letters or understanding words: it is discovering a universe. Each syllable learned is a spark that can ignite the fire of critical thinking, imagination, and consciousness. In this sense, reading is a form of freedom. A person who knows how to read can access knowledge, question the status quo, dream, create, understand the world, and understand themselves.
The fire Hugo describes is not destructive, but illuminating. He tells us about the light that emerges when a person, especially a child, learns to read for the first time. That initial spark, a letter, a word, a phrase, can become a flame that burns throughout life: the desire to learn, to explore, to grow.
And, on a social level, this quote also has an emancipatory echo. Access to reading has historically been a privilege, and even today it is not guaranteed for everyone. Teaching reading is, therefore, an act of justice, a way of offering tools that can change destinies. In that sense, every syllable pronounced aloud, every word understood, is a spark with the potential to ignite not only a mind, but an entire community.
Victor Hugo knew well that knowledge is not imposed, but ignited, like a fire that grows from within.
Presentation
The central themes of his pieces revolve around reading. José Manuel, through his figures of geometric lines in unrepeatable scenarios, seeks to transmit various emotions with the reader. His creative compositions are mainly based on wood.
