Description
This sculptural composition is set in a light wood box. It proposes an assembly of geometric fragments and organic shapes. The relief creates a subtle play of shadows on the neutral background.
The work relies on a superposition of materials with rough textures. Shades of moss green, ochre, and earthy red interweave. Each element seems to have been chosen for its patina and worn appearance.
The visual balance oscillates between architectural rigor and spontaneity. Vertical lines oppose soft curves. A toothed pattern runs through the center of the structure, bringing a jerky rhythm to the whole.
The material presents tactile irregularities. Areas of enamel and matte surfaces are observed. The arrangement evokes an abstract totem or an archaeological remnant.
The work presents itself as a chromatic puzzle. The blocks interlock precisely while retaining an artisanal look. The light highlights the sharp edges and the grainy surfaces.
Presentation
By observing the work of Jaume Millet (Barcelona, 1958), one might first think that he is an artist dedicated to recycling old wood, glass, and fragments of ruins. However, this reading only partially accounts for his work. For Millet, time constitutes the guiding thread of his entire artistic approach.
The artist turns to the ruins not simply as materials, but as a means of revealing that the viewer is no longer contemporary with the traces they observe — traces that have traversed time to us. These vestiges of a vanished world, detached from their original function and forgotten by history, call upon the viewer and transform them into a witness of a lost time. Through the transparency of the layers of color and glass, this temporal distance becomes perceptible.
His creative process is characterized by the accumulation of layers of paint, as well as by a shift in the conception of time: from an external and chronological reality to an internal and sensory experience.
