Description
The wood stretches upwards here. This abstract sculpture plays on a marked verticality. The form gradually refines to reach a slender point.
The work on the material reveals the raw nature. The artist has sculpted and polished the wood to extract a refined tension. Brown and black shades intertwine.
Burned areas contrast with the natural grain. The knots of the wood appear as visual anchor points. The smooth surface attracts the eye and invites touch.
The balance of the piece rests on a dark square base. This minimalist support stabilizes the ascending momentum of the object.
Created in 2025, this sculpture testifies to an organic approach. It transforms a fragment of nature into a precise work of art. Every curve emphasizes the nobility of the plant material. The black stone base completes the composition with its matte appearance.
Presentation
After crossing New Zealand on foot then a solo hike in Ladakh, Arthur Frenoy archived his engineering diploma, enrolled in the evening course at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and brought his project to fruition: creating wood from abstract sculptures. Wood for nobility and life, abstraction for amplitude of expression. Stumps, trunks, branches, burls, roots... he digs, sands, streaks and burns until he obtains the refined tension he seeks.
His workshop is also his living space, located in the middle of a property lost in the woods of Livradois-Forez which provide him with the raw materials necessary for his creations.
