Postimpresionismo
El postimpresionismo fue un movimiento artístico basado principalmente en Francia entre 1886 y 1905. Estos años marcan la última exposición de los impresionistas y el inicio del fauvismo. El postimpresionismo nació como reacción al arte impresionista, que representaba la luz y el color de forma naturalista. En su lugar, los artistas postimpresionistas favorecieron los colores brillantes y antinaturales y enfatizaron las cualidades pictóricas de sus obras. También utilizaban con frecuencia formas geométricas y distorsionadas que acentuaban su alejamiento del naturalismo.
El postimpresionismo se diferenciaba del impresionismo en su objetivo de expresar emociones a través del arte, en lugar de limitarse a producir impresiones visuales. A menudo se inclina hacia la abstracción y el simbolismo. Sin embargo, los postimpresionistas no rechazaron totalmente el impresionismo. Seguían utilizando varios elementos impresionistas, como la pintura del natural y la técnica del impasto, en la que la pintura se aplica de forma espesa para mostrar su textura.
Los artistas considerados líderes del postimpresionismo son Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat y Paul Cézanne. El movimiento incluye varios estilos y movimientos artísticos diferentes, como Les Nabis, el Neoimpresionismo, el Simbolismo, la Escuela de Pont-Aven y el Sintetismo. Esto refleja la diversidad de estilos del arte postimpresionista.
