Collage de periódicos
Aunque las formas tradicionales de arte académico, como la pintura y la escultura, siguen siendo populares hoy en día, en los últimos dos siglos se ha producido una explosión en la gama de técnicas y materiales utilizados por los artistas visuales. El collage es una de las formas de arte que se ha hecho inmensamente popular en Occidente en este tiempo, aunque tiene una historia mucho más larga de lo que algunos creen. Ya en el siglo XII, los artistas japoneses pegaban papel sobre seda para producir obras de arte. En Europa, el collage de papel tiene una historia que se remonta al siglo XV. Sin embargo, el uso del collage se disparó en Occidente después de que los artistas cubistas Pablo Picasso y Georges Braque lo utilizaran como técnica. Pegando trozos de periódico y otros materiales en sus lienzos, los cubistas emplearon el collage como forma de producir conexiones y contrastes inesperados entre elementos visuales.
Esta historia del collage de periódicos sigue influyendo en la práctica de muchos artistas contemporáneos, que utilizan el método para producir combinaciones visuales interesantes e inesperadas. Jean-Jacques André utiliza extractos rasgados de fuentes impresas para contrastar el color y la forma en composiciones vibrantes.
