Description
The artwork here, "Resting Woman", is a wonderful depiction of a female with her head on a pillow, that is saturated with acute detail throughout, making it one of the nicest drawings by Avery we have ever made available. Also, measuring approximately 11" x 8 ½" (archival matted to 10 ½" x 8") and 18" x 16" with the high-quality frame made specifically for this drawing, the immaculate artwork is of impressive craftsmanship and versatile size. Finally, it has remained in excellent condition since being completed by Avery in 1932, is signed in the lower right corner, and comes with a Gallery Letter of Authenticity.
Milton Avery's art has been exhibited in major museums, and can be found in some of the most prestigious public and private collections across the globe. Now, this authentic drawing can be part of yours as it will be professionally packaged to ship domestically or Internationally. Therefore please contact us if you have any questions and do not forget to submit your offer.
Every item comes with free custom framing. We have wood frames with gold, silver, black, or brown finishes to offer you. Please note that in order to preserve the quality of the artwork and condition of the frame, most items are framed at the time of purchase. If we do not hear from you regarding your framing options we will do our best to frame it in a similar style and color.
Presentation
MILTON AVERY (1885 - 1965): Milton Avery was an influential American modernist painter celebrated for his lyrical use of color, simplified forms, and distinctive balance between representation and abstraction. Born in Altmar, New York, he moved to Hartford, Connecticut, as a teenager and studied part-time at local art schools while supporting himself through a variety of jobs. After moving to New York City, Avery became part of the city's artistic community and married the painter and illustrator Sally Michel, with whom he worked closely throughout his career. His subjects included landscapes, seascapes, figures, portraits, and still lifes, which he increasingly reduced to broad, harmonious areas of color and simplified shapes. Influenced by artists such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, Avery developed a highly personal style that helped bridge American modernism and the emerging color-field movement. He became an important influence on younger artists including Mark Rothko and Adolph Gottlieb, and his work was exhibited extensively, including a major retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1960. Avery's paintings are held in major museum collections throughout the United States, including the National Gallery of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
