Description
Inspired by the artist's chance encounter with a deer during his trip to Scotland, the painting echoes the elusiveness of nature and our fleeting perception of beauty. The contours of reality are softened, blurred by the flow of memories and the impressionism of dreams. The deer's presence is assumed rather than defined, capturing the ephemeral essence of the moment.
Presentation
Svetlana Maksimenko's artistic work explores the different forms of control and influence that belong to our psyche. Deeply concerned with phenomena of global suppression such as religions, myths, state propaganda and, more recently, new technologies, the artist is particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms of faith and dependence that push us to voluntarily submit to external control. Through her paintings, she invites viewers to become aware of their own relationship with power and authority, and to consider how they may contribute to their own subjugation.
