Description
This evocative artwork captures a sense of ephemeral beauty in an urban setting, using broad, confident brushstrokes and a muted, yet compelling color palette. The scene is set on a rainy day, the wet pavement reflecting the blurred figures of a man and a woman, who walk resolutely forward, their forms rendered with a combination of detail and impressionistic vagueness.
The man on the left is dressed in a brown coat and hat, while the woman's attire includes a white coat and an orange-brown skirt, which adds a splash of warmth to the otherwise cool and soft colors of the painting. The background buildings are depicted in an abstract style, their contours and colors blending harmoniously to create a sense of depth and perspective, suggesting both the intimacy and the anonymity of city life.
The dynamic and textured application of paint conveys movement and the slightly hazy, dreamlike atmosphere typical of a rainy day. What stands out in this piece is the artist's masterful use of reflections and the interplay of light and shadow, which infuses the scene with a sense of realism and motion without losing the impressionistic essence.
This artwork compellingly captures the essence of a fleeting moment shared in an urban landscape, evoking emotions and stories just beneath the surface, inviting viewers to engage beyond the visual spectacle.
Presentation
Born in 1968. Artist based in Amsterdam, Netherlands“Since I was a beginning artist I focused on paradoxical themes in my work, which I loved to create in my mind and then put them on the canvas. It changed into something completely opposite- simplicity combined with beauty, after a dramatic event in my life.
I started to deeply resonate with the saying “live every day as it is your last one». In my work I want to express that value of life as an amazing gift and I do my best to make every day count by creating beauty - not only for myself but also for others.
These days, what I paint is largely based on a combination of spots of color. During the process I sketch that chaotic first layer and the oil paint then dictates me itself what strokes to put on next. I would call my style close to impressionism. I prefer to use a palette knife before the brush because it allows me to be more flexible and free while painting with vivid thick layers. This way I am translating my emotions directly onto the canvas." Education: Ufa art school (+MS in History of Art)
