Description
David Azuz (1942–2014) is an Israeli painter whose work, nourished by the expressionist tradition and Mediterranean culture, is distinguished by an intense pictorial energy and a colorful and vibrant palette. His dense compositions, where figures and architectures merge into a single gestural movement, attest to a poetic and carnal vision of the urban world.
This oil on thick paper, dated from the late 20th – early 21st century, represents an animated urban composition of great narrative richness. The colorful figures, the sketched architectures, and the gestural touches are organized in a dense and vibrant pictorial space, signed in the bottom left with a characteristic handwritten signature.
This work is offered by PACART after verification of its authenticity and stylistic coherence.
Presentation
David AZUZ (1942-2014)
The intimate chronicler of urban solitudes
David Azuz is a major figurative painter whose work bridges a sensitive link between the effervescence of Paris and the light of Tel Aviv. With remarkable artistic precocity, he began his training at the age of nine in the studio of Josef Schwartzmann before joining the Avni Academy. Settled in Paris as early as 1958, he perfected his art at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Montparnasse, thus entering the lineage of the great colorists of the Parisian scene.
Painter of humanity and daily life, David Azuz has built a unique pictorial universe centered on the atmosphere of living spaces. His favorite subjects form a universal chronicle of city life:
David Azuz's style is characterized by a rigorous command of drawing combined with a rich, dense, and expressive chromatic palette. Beyond animating scenes, his painting explores with modesty the theme of the individual's solitude within the multitude. Each composition thus becomes a poetic meditation on the human condition, bathed in a subtle balance between light, silence, and melancholy.
Today represented in many international collections and regularly exhibited in auction houses, David Azuz remains a sought-after signature for his narrative strength and deep graphic sincerity.
