Description
This textile artwork captures a poetic dialogue between nature and geometry. The composition unfolds as a tactile landscape. Meticulous handwork transforms silk and linen into a rhythmic expanse. A dark, linear fracture cuts through the center. It evokes a river or a deep tectonic rift. Surrounding this void, organic clusters climb and recede. They mimic the appearance of frost, moss, or aerial views of a wild territory. The neutral palette of cream and grey emphasizes the material depth. Every stitch contributes to a larger, undulating structure. The piece oscillates between a flat surface and a three-dimensional relief. It reflects a deep exploration of territory and botanical forms. The balance of light and shadow creates a subtle atmospheric tension. This approach blends traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary visual language. The result is a sophisticated study of repetition and organic growth. The texture invites a sensory experience through its varied densities and overlapping layers.
Presentation
Vero González Ugarte (Santiago, Chile, 1973) is a visual artist living and working between Santiago and Barcelona. Her practice explores nature, landscape, and territory through a material and poetic approach, moving between drawing, printmaking, textile art, and installation.
Working primarily with paper, silk, linen, and copper, she combines traditional and contemporary processes to create layered compositions in which repetition, rhythm, and meticulous handwork transform individual organic elements into larger structures that move between two and three dimensions.
González Ugarte has held more than fifteen solo exhibitions, including (Galería Artespacio, Santiago, 2025), (Galería Sextante, Bogotá, 2023), and (Galería Artespacio, Santiago, 2021). Her work has also been presented internationally at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and in the context of the Cuenca Biennial in Ecuador.
Her work is held in public and private collections across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and has been commissioned for international spaces including Celebrity Xcel, Boston Children's Hospital, and Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou.
