Description
In this painting, I wanted to capture a winter evening — a feeling of warmth, memory and looking into the distance.
The scene shows a warm interior with a softly lit window. A few branches and a simple vase stand nearby, while beyond the glass there is a cold landscape of trees and distant hills.
For me, this outward gaze is connected with a journey and with memory. Someone is already in a new place, yet still looking towards where they came from. There is both distance and a sense of connection to the past.
The warm ochre, deep red and brown tones of the interior contrast with the frosty blues and whites outside. This creates a winter atmosphere and a sense of the festive season without depicting it literally.
I wanted to leave the story open. It could be a moment of remembering, waiting or simply observing — each viewer may find their own story in it.
I chose acrylic for this work because it allows me to work with clear areas of colour and strong contrasts while keeping the composition simple.

Presentation
Olesia Miftahova is a Ukrainian artist based in Wales, United Kingdom.
Her practice explores how time reshapes memory and how ancient narratives transform through contemporary experience. Drawing on Celtic, Slavic, and Welsh mythology, alongside biblical imagery, she reinterprets archetypes as living forms that continue to evolve across generations.
Working primarily in acrylic, Miftahova employs symbolic imagery and a minimalist visual language to explore memory, mythology, and the shifting meanings of familiar symbols.
In 2025, she presented her solo exhibitions Garden of Memory and Garden of Memories: Growing Beyond in Wales. Her work has been exhibited internationally across the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Greece, Switzerland, Turkey, the Philippines, and the United States, including exhibitions at the Taras Shevchenko National Museum (Kyiv), POSK Gallery (London), and the Odesa Museum of Western and Eastern Art.
