Description
"Silent Thoughts" – Contemporary Expressive Figurative Portrait of a Woman | Acrylic Painting on Paper | 29.7 × 42 cm (11.7 × 16.5 in)
Silent Thoughts is an expressive contemporary portrait of a woman by French artist Natalya Mougenot, created in acrylic on professional acid-free paper. Measuring 29.7 × 42 cm (11.7 × 16.5 inches), this vibrant original artwork explores femininity, introspection and the richness of the human emotional experience.
Part of Natalya Mougenot's ongoing Women series, dedicated to female portraits, this painting reflects the artist's fascination with the complexity of women and their inner worlds. Through her portraits, Natalya seeks to express more than physical appearance. She explores the many dimensions of femininity: vulnerability and resilience, sensitivity and strength, contemplation and freedom. Each woman becomes an invitation to look beyond appearances and discover the emotions, thoughts and individual identity that make her unique.
In Silent Thoughts, the woman's gently closed eyes suggest a moment of withdrawal from the outside world, as if she were listening to her own thoughts. Her expression conveys a quiet intimacy, a moment of inner dialogue in which words become unnecessary.
Colour plays a fundamental role in Natalya's artistic language. She deliberately chooses bold, luminous and sometimes unexpected colour combinations, using colour not merely to reproduce reality but to communicate emotions and bring her subjects to life. Fiery reds, glowing oranges and golden yellows contrast with deep blues and vibrant pinks, creating an atmosphere that is simultaneously powerful, intimate and contemplative. For the artist, bright colours are also a way of celebrating life, expressing positive energy and bringing light and joy into the world.
Her approach to colour and simplified forms reveals the influence of Henri Matisse, whose freedom of expression, daring use of colour and ability to convey emotion through simplified shapes have deeply inspired her artistic vision. Like Matisse, Natalya believes that colour has its own expressive power and does not need to imitate the natural world. However, she translates this inspiration into her own distinctive contemporary visual language, combining expressive brushwork, spontaneous gestures and a deeply personal interpretation of the human figure.
At the heart of Natalya's practice lies a commitment to authenticity and honesty. She does not seek idealised beauty or conventional perfection. Instead, she embraces spontaneity, visible brushstrokes, contrasts and imperfections as essential elements of artistic expression. Her paintings are sincere interpretations of feelings and experiences, where emotion takes precedence over strict representation. For her, painting is a way of remaining true to herself, expressing what she genuinely feels and creating a direct, honest connection with the viewer.
With its expressive face, vibrant palette and powerful yet intimate presence, Silent Thoughts invites us to pause, reflect and reconnect with our own inner world.

Framing advice:
For a standard and easy-to-find option, I recommend an A3 frame (29.7 × 42 cm / 11.7 × 16.5 inches). Choose a simple white, natural wood or light oak frame for a fresh, contemporary look, or a thin black frame for a more striking contrast.
For an elegant gallery-style presentation, consider an A2 frame (42 × 59.4 cm / 16.5 × 23.4 inches) with a custom-cut white or off-white mat (mount) and an opening of 29.7 × 42 cm (11.7 × 16.5 inches). This will give the painting more breathing space and beautifully highlight its vibrant colours.
Packaging and shipping:
Your painting will be carefully and professionally packaged in France to ensure maximum protection during transportation. The packaging includes protective sheets, bubble wrap, and sturdy cardboard materials, with additional protective layers where necessary to safeguard the painted surface, canvas edges, and corners.

Each artwork is prepared with great care for international shipping, helping ensure that it reaches your home in the best possible condition.
Presentation
Natalya is a contemporary french artist living in Lyon.
She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.
She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.
She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.
In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism, which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.
As an artist and as a woman she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion, is the pillar for the inner adult.
Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.
She works rapidly and is constantly sensitive to the details.
Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
