Description
"Cornercopia" takes its name from a playful twist on cornucopia, a title that reflects the wit and visual ease of the artwork itself. Mario Tarantino photographed this mid-century home in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, turning an overlooked architectural detail into the frame's focal point. A pair of white polygons wrap across the corner of the vibrant green façades, while light claims one plane and shadow the other. Geometry, colour and repetition do all the rest.
There is no hidden narrative to decode. "Cornercopia" is deliberately immediate: clean, energetic and optimistic. The unusual corner windows feel playful rather than practical, recalling a moment in mid-century architecture when even functional details could become expressive. Against the vivid green, they take on a Pop Art sensibility, moving from architecture toward abstraction.
Printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta, a bright white fine-art paper with a refined semi-gloss surface, the print preserves both the intensity of the green and the crisp precision of the image's lines. The artist works closely with a master printer using archival pigment inks and giclée printing, ensuring exhibition-grade archival quality.
Vibrant and minimalist in the same breath, "Cornercopia" belongs to Mario Tarantino's "Pop Arch" series, an architectural body of work built on the interplay of geometry and colour. The artwork is part of a limited edition of 20, each print personally inspected by Mario before being named, numbered and hand-signed. A stamped and signed certificate of authenticity accompanies every work, confirming its place within the edition
Presentation
Mario Tarantino's distinctive contemporary photography is expressed through his use of negative space, minimalist compositions, and striking contrasts. His relentless pursuit of the surreal allows him to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, creating captivating visuals that offer moments of aesthetic escapism. Working primarily in monochrome, his images are bold yet balanced, creating a visual language that has earned him numerous international awards, including multiple recognitions as Photographer of the Year.
Exhibited in cities such as Tokyo, Budapest, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Athens, his work has reached a global audience while also becoming part of both corporate and private collections worldwide. His artistic vision resonates strongly with photography collectors who seek not only technical excellence but the ability of an image to linger, to suggest, and to evoke.
His artistic perspective unfolds across three main genres—architecture, landscape, and street photography each approached in a purist manner, using minimal elements in seeking to capture the sublime through simplicity. Much of his work is created under low light conditions, where the soft illumination gives rise to evocative imagery with a futuristic atmosphere that has become his hallmark.
His fascination with the interplay of light and shadow, texture, tone, and form is reflected in every piece, revealing his profound love of aesthetic photography. Mario uses his camera as a painter does a brush, not only to capture an image but to convey an idea, an inner vision or share their unique sense of beauty.
