Description
A portrait of Edie Sedgwick, American actress and model and muse of Andy Warhol. On a botanical print of lilies, 19th century. 5-color screenprint on Olin 250g by the artist
This composition plays on the fusion between the human body and nature. The face of a woman integrates precisely into the petals of a golden lily. The chromatic contrast opposes the coldness of the bluish tones to the warmth of the golden colors.
The work on superposition creates a subtle effect of transparency. The silhouette seems to emerge from the flower, illustrating an organic symbiosis. The artist explores human and vegetal fragility.
The screenprinting technique allows for a rigorous sharpness of the contours. Each line emphasizes the tension and grace of the pose. The immaculate white background isolates the subject to accentuate the visual force of the whole.
The balance of shapes guides the eye towards the detail of the textures, between skin and pollen.
Presentation
Tian is a French artist of urban influences, living and working in Le Mans.
Tian is fascinated by human nature, which is his favorite subject. The ambivalence of the being, its fears, its anxieties, its contradictions and its joys represent for the artist a great ground of inspiration, in which he pick ups all day long. He works more precicely on the duality of characters, revealing thus all the paradoxes of human emotions, as well as on the duality of physical, romantic and conflicting interactions between two subjects. Communication with the body can be sensual, romantic, sexual, or on the contrary tense, dominating, enslaving.
Tian works with stencils, on the walls of big cities or on canvases. Le Mans remains his favorite playground, even through we can see his tag on the walls of Paris, London, Berlin, Brussels, New York, Sao Paulo and Warsaw.
