Description
In his Refuge series, Egor Plotnikov places small human figures within reduced, almost carceral architectures. The stark white structures function simultaneously as shelter and confinement, while their openings suggest the possibility of escape. By reducing the scene to body, scale and enclosure, Plotnikov explores the fragile boundary between protection and isolation.
The figures stand at the entrances to their shelters, seemingly questioning their openness to the world. This tension between openness and confinement, monumentality and fragility, is characteristic of Plotnikov's sculptural practice, where the landscape becomes less a representation of nature than a psychological and spatial construction.
