Galerie Photo Edition Berlin presented in 2015 new works by the artist Eliška Bartek from 2010 - 2014. Secret Photography - Cliché Verre and Photograms. A lavishly designed illustrated book has been published to accompany the exhibition: Geheime Fotografie published by Photo Edition Berlin. The publication was generously funded by the Federal Office of Culture in Bern to fulfil its mandate of supporting important Swiss cultural practitioners. The introductory text to the publication was written by Prof. Dr. Eugen Blume, director of the National Gallery in the Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart in Berlin. He writes about the art works: ...
The cliché verre as a special form of photographic technique was forgotten for a long time. Only artists like Picasso, Man Ray or later Sigmar Polke and the emerging technique of the so-called photograms developed the cliché verre into an artistic form of its own, based on the almost infinite possibilities hidden in the material. Eliska Bartek's prints from this century belong to this series.

The work cycles include the series: Matterhorn, Ode to My Mother, Breakthrough to Black Nothingness, Notations Against Oblivion, Multidimensional Map of a Terrain, See Interstellar Space Cut Through, Phenotypes and Amore nella Valle di Lacrima.

Presentation

Eliška Bartek is a Czech photographer, painter and author. She lives and works in Berlin and Ticino.

Bartek fled to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1972. She has been a Swiss citizen since 1975. From 1976 to 1978 she took painting lessons with Fritz Deutsch. From 1979 to 1983 she attended the Zurich University of the Arts and from 1983 to 1986 the private school "Form und Farben" in Zurich. Between 1995 and 1996 she lived in Vienna and received a scholarship from the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. Since 1997 she has lived and worked in Berlin and Ticino.

Bartek has been working on her abstract photographic works and paintings since the late 1980s. Her photographs, photograms and glass cliché prints are closely linked to the tradition of concrete photography and are influenced by Constructivism and Surrealism. Her work with floral elements has attracted great attention. In the process, she photographs flowers illuminated in different colors in extreme close-ups. Her Neo-Impressionist paintings often thematize classical landscape views and attempt to question their idyll.
