Harmony of Lines and Earth is an original acrylic painting by Indonesian artist Farid Yudiatmoko Setjo, created in 2026. Inspired by the craftsmanship and movement of Kuda Lumping, the work brings earthy colour into conversation with expressive lines and vivid turquoise accents.

Brown, cream and terracotta establish a warm visual foundation. These colours refer to the natural materials used to create the traditional woven horse, including bamboo and rattan. Their presence connects the composition with the earth and with the physical act of making.

Intersecting brushstrokes echo the structure of weaving. Their rhythms also suggest the movement of dance, allowing crafted patterns and spontaneous gestures to develop together across the canvas.

Turquoise passages introduce a lively contrast. Moving through the warmer palette, they suggest a flow of energy and the renewal of inherited forms through contemporary creativity.

The painting explores balance through these relationships: humanity and nature, structure and movement, cultural memory and personal expression. Its square format gives the composition a contained, harmonious presence.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Farid Yudiatmoko Setjo, born in Indonesia in 1975, is a painter and art educator based in Kawali, Ciamis, West Java. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, he draws on Kuda Lumping, woven bamboo craftsmanship and traditional performance to develop compositions between figuration and abstraction.

He graduated in English Literature from STIBA Malang in 2000. His professional experience includes artistic consultancy, private teaching, managing painter Sadikin Pard from 2016 to 2018, and participating in mural projects in Malang and Ciamis.

His exhibition record includes a presentation alongside Kartika Affandi in Surabaya in 2017, National Drawing Day and Damar Larung in 2025, and Saujana Kala in 2026.

In 2024, he founded Katong Art Gallery in Kawali, where he combines his studio practice with informal art education and the encouragement of local talent.
