Description
Unique original artwork — 1/1
Dance That Reaches for the Sky celebrates the expressive freedom of dance through an enveloping composition of curved forms and vibrant colour.
Farid Yudiatmoko Setjo combines coral, rose, crimson and burnt orange with turquoise and blue. White accents illuminate the layered field, while deeper burgundy passages give weight to the flowing contours. Warm and cool colours move alongside one another, creating a balance between intensity and lightness.
On the left, a stylised horse head takes shape within sweeping arcs. A dancer's face appears toward the upper right, emerging from overlapping strokes of pink and blue. Between them, curved turquoise passages and intricate circular markings connect the composition, drawing the viewer into its changing rhythms.
The figures are integrated into the surrounding colour rather than isolated against a background. Their outlines appear, dissolve and reappear, suggesting a performance experienced through movement, atmosphere and emotion.
The artist describes the work as a celebration of aspiration and pride. The dancer lifts their spirit toward the light, honouring ancestors and uplifting the hearts of those watching. Grace becomes a shared experience, carried from performer to audience.
The surface offers its own rhythm. Expansive strokes meet fine patterns, fragmented accents and areas where the canvas weave remains visible. These details give the painting a tactile presence and reward close observation.
A personal dedication on the reverse extends the work's message. It speaks of rising movement, freedom and dreams, concluding with the artist's wish that the painting inspire its viewer to reach for the sky.
With its radiant palette and flowing structure, Dance That Reaches for the Sky brings an expressive focal point to an interior. Its theme of possibility gives the work an emotional resonance that unfolds through repeated viewing.

Presentation
Farid Yudiatmoko Setjo transforms the rhythm of Indonesian tradition into paintings filled with movement, colour and presence.
Based in Kawali, Ciamis, West Java, the artist draws inspiration from Kuda Lumping, its woven bamboo horses and the expressive energy of dance. Working in acrylic on canvas, he develops a visual language in which equine forms emerge through flowing lines, layered strokes and intricate ornamental passages.
Midnight blue, turquoise and emerald bring depth to his compositions. Earth tones, luminous whites and gold-coloured accents introduce warmth and contrast. Across this palette, the horse becomes an image of courage, dignity and togetherness.
His paintings explore the relationship between inherited culture and personal expression. In Woven Majesty, interlocking marks evoke the patience of craftsmanship; Intertwining Lines of Heritage develops the rhythm of woven structures; Desire and Soul considers the encounter between passion and inner balance.
Setjo graduated in English Literature from STIBA Malang in 2000. His experience spans artistic consultancy, teaching, artist management and community murals. He exhibited alongside Kartika Affandi in Surabaya in 2017 and participated in exhibitions in the Ciamis region in 2025 and 2026.
Founder of Katong Art Gallery since 2024, he combines his studio practice with a commitment to encouraging local talent. His work invites viewers to experience tradition as a living source of imagination and renewal.
