Description
A seer doesn't look at the world the way the rest of us do. Here, one eye is open and watchful while the other is lowered, as if turned inward. The long, angular face seems to see past the surface of things.
The figure's body is a patchwork of symbols: dots, stars, circles, and leaf-like marks, set in tiles of green, orange, blue, and black. It reads like a coded language, or a lifetime of knowledge stitched into one garment. Around it, bold blocks of colour split the canvas like stained glass.
Seer is a vivid, symbol-rich work on wisdom, intuition, and the knowledge that can't be spoken. A striking piece for collectors of contemporary African art.
Presentation
Adetona Solomon Ajani uses colours, symbols, patterns, and abstract and figurative forms to document Yoruba culture and philosophy as a bridge between past and present. His warm, vibrant palette captures inner emotion and celebrates Yoruba traditions, with works carrying both visual and spiritual resonance, drawing on adire motifs and Yoruba symbolism to connect ancestral wisdom with contemporary relevance.
