Description
The line imposes itself with surgical precision on a pristine white background.
The artist explores the letter here as a malleable material. He deconstructs the sign to extract a graphic essence.
Deep blue dominates the composition. This color saturates the space and creates a sharp contrast with the clarity of the support.
The gesture hesitates between the brutality of street art and the rigor of calligraphy. The curves intertwine. They stretch into fluid ribbons that seem to float in the void.
The mixed media work brings a tactile richness. Projections of paint and grainy textures punctuate the movement.
Some orange flashes pierce the chromatic dominance. They bring a subtle visual balance to the whole.
It is a search for pure form. The alphabet becomes a pretext to express an inner tension.
This 2016 creation mixes urban energy with a controlled plastic approach.
The result is an aerial structure where every curve responds to a sharp angle. The red signature discreetly signs the lower right corner of the canvas.
Presentation
Cyril Simon was born in 1978, nicknamed 2flui, is a fan of alphabet letters, especially when these are under the form of graffiti on unusual walls.
He wanders on Parisian streets, to gaze upon the various graffiti, in order to nourish his creation. 1990 is an important date, as it was when his artistic career began. 2flui says he "tortures" the letters which are already written on the walls, he comes across. From torture to finesse, the artists forges a link with the letters through meticulous calligraphy. He has a big thirst for creation, he looks for the perfect form (tag), the one which doesn't exist but which nourishes his infinite research. He approaches the ideal form, by combining different metallic tools, cardboard...The title of his calligraphy, crystallizes questions which underpin his strokes: "brutality, oppression, where is the world headed?, crazy". Finesse and subtlety manage to translate the strength of his emotions. Hurtful and finesse make one.
