A captivating silver print from 1965. Werner Bokelberg captures a moment of cinematic elegance. The black and white composition radiates a timeless sophistication. A woman reclines across an ornate rug in a lavish interior. Her shimmering gown catches the soft light. Thick white fur drapes behind her. A single lit candle adds a touch of intimacy and warmth.
The scene evokes the glamour of the mid-century era. Bokelberg utilizes deep shadows to create a moody atmospheric depth. Every texture is rendered with precision. From the intricate patterns of the carpet to the delicate fabric of the dress. The actress embodies a refined poise. This artwork belongs to a period when the photographer documented the most influential figures of the sixties. His eye blends the discipline of portraiture with an actor's sense of drama. The resulting image is more than a portrait. It is a study of luxury and solitude. The composition focuses on the fluid lines of the body and the architectural details of the room. Light dances across the surface of the print. It highlights the contrast between the dark walls and the luminous subject.
Werner Bokelberg (born October 22, 1937 in Bremen; died August 20, 2024 in Hamburg) was a German photographer and actor. He lived and worked in Hamburg, Paris, and New York.Although he had already followed training as a photographer, Bokelberg was attracted to the profession of actor. At the age of 19, he decided to become an actor and enrolled in the dramatic arts school at the Wiesbaden Conservatory, where he took classes from Axel Ivers and Robert Kleinert. He eventually returned to his initial profession. From 1962 to 1972, he worked as a photographer for the magazine *Stern*, immortalizing personalities such as Uschi Obermaier, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Brian Jones, Andy Warhol, Romy Schneider and Rainer Langhans, as well as the May 68 movement. As an actor, he plays his own role—that of a photographer—in the comedy *Sylvie* by Klaus Lemke, released in 1973.Subsequently, he works as a commercial photographer and participates in many major campaigns, notably for Deutsche Bank and Lufthansa.
