Description
This black granite sculpture captures a moment of raw complicity. Two monks embrace in an expression of sincere joy. The work of the material reveals traces of fingers and marked reliefs. This texture brings a human and tactile dimension to the composition.
The chromatic contrast strikes the eye. The orange ochre of the robes stands out clearly against the dark gray of the bodies. This choice emphasizes the physical presence of the monks while evoking scenes of daily life. The influence of oriental arts and especially Japanese art is read in the simplicity of the forms and the accuracy of the postures.
The movement is rendered with precision. The raised faces and open smiles convey spontaneous happiness. The pyramidal composition ensures the balance of the whole. The artist here favors a figurative approach centered on pure emotion.
