Pastel Colors

We could all do with a little softness in this harsh world. After a long day at work, there is nothing better than coming home to a serene setting, especially one that has been decorated by our own hand... And the colors that surround us play a precious role. So to avoid feeling assaulted by a red that is too bright or be put in a gloomy mood by too much black, opt for pastel colors! Light blue, pearl grey, powdered pink, opaline green... The possibilities are endless, and above all, these shades compliment each other perfectly. For a chic bohemian interior, opt for a beige cotton voile on your walls. In a nostalgic mood? Add a vintage touch with a soft orange piece. Fans of the Scandinavian aesthetic? Cashmere grey will be perfect...

Pastel colors are sometimes perceived as bland in the collective imagination. And yet, they come back in force in our interiors! In fact, they have become one of the leading decorative trends. From the bedroom to the bathroom, via the kitchen and the lounge, they adapt to all atmospheres and tastes. Better still, they make us feel good by transforming each room into a real cocoon. Whether as a discrete touch or a total look, pastel tones make you want to snuggle up in an armchair, with a plaid blanket by the fire... The ideal setting to enjoy reading your favorite novel.

In addition to being on trend, these colors have a real meaning in the history of art. They appear as the essential components of one of the greatest artistic movements: Impressionism! At the beginning of the 1860s, a young generation of artists entered the French creative scene. In this desire to break conventions and create an innovative art, these painters dared to go all out and propose a more luminous painting, based on an observation of nature. No more warm tones, hello light colors! Landscapes, as varied as they are, came to be depicted with cooler tones. The scenes of flowering gardens and the shores of the sea were bathed in a soft light that caught everyone's eye. In this period of artistic effervescence at the beginning of the 20th century, some painters went even further. The Nabis and the Fauvists expressed their interest in the soft harmony of pastel colors even more so. Take for example, certain paintings by Henri Matisse or Maurice Denis, which caused a sensation (and scandal!).

Finally, the pastel shades are no doubt linked to the world of childhood and the joy that accompanies it. They remind us of the sweetness of marshmallows, the deliciously sweet taste of syrups, the crackle of sugared almonds in your mouth and the intoxicating smell of cotton candy. Season after season, they bring a breath of fresh air. In spring, they evoke the songs of birds and flowering fields, while in summer, they harmonise with the blue sky. In autumn, they contrast with the warm colors and in winter, they bring a little cheerfulness... Discover our selection of soft and cheerful works, to put in your home right away!
