Artwork location: France
This artwork is a dynamic explosion of color and texture. The turquoise background serves as a contrasting canvas for the vibrant bursts that erupt from the center. Warm pigments like red, orange, and yellow mingle with cooler shades of gray and white. Each brushstroke seems to freeze movement, creating a sense of dynamism and fluidity. Paint splatters extend from a central column, suggesting a volcanic eruption or a flower in full bloom, adding narrative depth to the composition. The bold use of color and texture demonstrates a mastery of mixed media and immediately captures the viewer's attention. This work invites contemplation, evoking both power and delicacy in chaotic harmony.
Collector’s Guide
Based in France since 1985, Suntta Li is one of those artists who explore the ferment that occurs when two cultures meet. A multidisciplinary artist, he has recently refocused his work on the 'image', using painting, photography and sometimes a combination of the two to destructure it and invite us to look at it differently. This new series of superimposed paintings is a further illustration of this.
'Why look at a painting only one way?' says Suntta Li. The artist has therefore 'invested' her canvases in each direction. At first, the eye is lost in this labyrinth of lines and colours, struggling to find a way in and a way out. Then, little by little, a face takes shape, a hand becomes more precise and the drawing finally reveals itself. But a moment's distraction and everything disappears. 'My aim is to play on the boundary between the visible and the invisible and to force the viewer to look at the image differently. The viewer is no longer passive, but becomes an actor, discerning the four scenes by turning his or her head from left to right, or even upside down. With this series of paintings, Suntta Li has developed a kind of thermodynamics of the image in which nothing is lost, nothing is created, but everything is transformed.
