This artwork presents a dynamic landscape that captures the viewer's attention through its vivid brushwork and expressive palette. Dominating the scene is a formidable gray mountain peak, sharply contrasting with the encapsulating natural elements. Below, dense clusters of green trees emerge, their textures rendered with striking depth. The foreground reveals a tangle of white and earthy sureal trails, lending an organic, almost chaotic vitality to the composition. Artist Statement:
This painting is the first of a series focused on the movement and connection to nature, capturing the subtle yet powerful way in which we, and wildlife, engage with the environment. Inspired by the majestic Rockies near Cascade Ponds and Falls in Banff, Alberta, "Trails of Connection" explores the unseen pathways that connect us to the land. Through vibrant, flowing lines that merge and intertwine with abstract evergreens and peaks, the trails take on a surreal quality, floating through the sky and winding their way up the mountain. The use of earthy tones, like sienna, sap green, and ivory grey, highlights the natural beauty of the landscape, while a dramatic sky and textured details bring the painting to life. The trails are depicted not just as physical routes, but as symbols of the spiritual and emotional journeys we embark upon when we connect with nature.
In contrast to my previous solo exhibition, which focused on the sensory connection to nature—specifically light, depth, and movement—this new series emphasizes the tactile and physical aspect of our bond with the natural world. My past work, such as , captured the depth of landscapes through light and the movement of water, expressing the emotional intensity that nature evokes. "Trails of Connection" shifts focus to the growth, stillness, and subtle movement of nature, exploring how we physically interact with the earth and its spaces. Through this new approach, I hope to create a deeper, more embodied experience of nature that invites the viewer to explore the interconnectedness of all living things.

Mariam Qureshi is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist based in Canada whose work has been featured in solo exhibitions nationwide, as well as in France, Austria and Switzerland. In addition, her art has been featured in publications such as ARTSY Editorial Review and the Global News television program. Qureshi describes her abstract and surreal expressions as being based on the marks the subject has left on her or the world.
