Description
Three koi carp glide in a deep blue. Their orange, white, and black scales create a sharp contrast with the water. The composition is organized around curved movements. Water lilies in green and yellow hues float on the surface. Pink lotus flowers bring a touch of softness.
The artist uses acrylic here to build the light. She employs a technique close to pointillism. A multitude of small colored touches structure the whole. This process gives relief and rhythm to the scene.
The eye circulates between the fish and the vegetation. The chromatic palette is bright and luminous. Every detail is treated with precision. The figurative aspect mixes with a search for the vibration of colors. This painting dates from 2026. It captures the suspended moment of a serene pond.
Presentation
Catherine Vella is a French painter of Italian origin, whose artistic career spans over thirty years.
After long practicing oil painting, she now works mainly with acrylics. Her universe is characterized by a generous use of color, light contrasts, and a constant search around light and emotion. Her work evolves between two complementary expressions: figurative painting with blocks of bright colors and a more meticulous approach inspired by pointillism. She explores various subjects—Mediterranean landscapes, human figures, animals, flowers, and scenes evocative of travel—while maintaining a personal visual identity. Painting occupies a central place in her life today. Her works have been presented at exhibitions and have joined private collections in France as well as abroad
My painting is above all guided by color, light, and emotion. I seek to create living and luminous works, capable of conveying a positive sensation while leaving room for sensitivity and imagination. I work mainly with acrylics, sometimes with flat blocks of color, sometimes with a technique close to pointillism which allows me to build light through a multitude of colored touches. Through landscapes, figures, animals, or scenes inspired by elsewhere
