Description
This time, it is there, whole. Where Eiffel Blue was content to light it, Eiffel Gold shows the tower head-on, seen from below, from the tip of the antenna down to the pillars cut off by the frame. A silhouette everyone knows, caught at the hour when Paris turns to gold.
The whole approach rests on one contrast: the sky is smooth, the tower is built. On one side, a surface of amber and gold crossed by clouds, without a single brick. On the other, a monument in relief standing out against the light, in a range of browns, blacks and charcoal greys. The light only touches the edges: oranges and beiges climb the pillars and pick out the frieze of the first floor, while the underside of the platform sinks into a dense black. Beneath the great arch, the sky reappears, and at the very bottom, between the feet, two small golden glows are enough to suggest the city.
Up close, the iron framework becomes a mosaic. Plates, round pieces, slopes and Technic elements interlock on several levels to render the tower's lattice without ever copying it. You have to move in to see the stars and golden pieces slipped into the pillars, the touches of lavender and lime green placed along the edges like reflections, a propeller lost in the black of the base. And, at the bottom right, a printed tile reading “La tour Eiffel", as discreet as a museum label.
Gustave Eiffel's tower was born from 18,038 iron parts assembled one by one. Brick Board Builder rebuilds it the same way, except that he works without a plan: each LEGO® brick is chosen by hand from a reclaimed stock that arrived loose from all over France, notably thanks to the solidarity-based non-profit Rejoué, and was then cleaned and sorted piece by piece. That is what makes Eiffel Gold impossible to remake identically.
A one-of-a-kind piece, numbered and delivered with its certificate of authenticity.
Presentation
The art of pixel pop.
“I deal with the constraints of brick as others deal with painting."
Gregory, aka BBB, doesn't paint: he builds. Brick by brick, pixel by pixel, he assembles art with patience, precision... and a certain playfulness.
Trained in interior architecture and technical drawing, he diverts LEGO – a universal, almost childlike material – to create a unique, vibrant, unexpected visual language.
His works combine technical rigor, subtle narrative, and nods to pop culture. From afar, a familiar image. Up close, a complex world. What he creates are slow surprises. Each painting reveals itself in two stages: first the obvious, then the strangeness, the detail, the hidden emotion.
It's an art of patience and pixels, a meticulous construction game that thwarts our perception. BBB revisits icons of contemporary visual culture—mythical characters, musical figures, popular heroes—and slips into them his own grammar, made of rhythm, silence, and graphic tension. He doesn't play with LEGO. He plays with complexity. With our gaze. With the pleasure of revealing the unexpected.
