Description
It is still, doors open, as if someone has just gotten out. At 192 centimeters wide, this DeLorean is no longer an image of a car: it is a presence, on the scale of a wall, that imposes its length even before anything is discernible.
Where there was a work of subtraction, this is a work of accumulation. Everything is filled, everything is built, and the bodywork becomes a territory to explore. The brushed steel is not gray: it is made of hundreds of mingled shades — whites, pearl gray, anthracites, taupes, but also lavenders, pale blues, sands, faded greens, powdered roses. These improbable colors, invisible from a distance, are exactly what makes the metal. From afar, the eye merges them into a single reflection. Up close, it discovers a mosaic.
The interior is the tipping point. Where the bodywork is read as a surface, the cabin opens in depth: seats, windshield pillar, headrest, and that dense black that hollows out the cockpit. A few red and green accents light up in the shadow, barely perceptible, like the witnesses of a dashboard left under tension.
And then there is the line. A black vertical crosses the work and separates it into two panels, exactly at the midpoint of the open door. A diptych is never neutral: this cut splits the machine in its middle, separates the front from the back, the beginning from the end. Discreetly, on the left, two dates comment on it — October 26th 1985 / 2025. Forty years on either side of a line.
Brick Board Builder did not place any brick according to a plan. Each element was chosen by hand, from a stock of used LEGO® bricks arrived in bulk from all over France and sorted one by one — some of which come from solidarity reuse through the association Rejoué. Pieces without history that find their own. At this scale, the quantity of sorted bricks is counted in tens of thousands, and each was chosen for its shade, its shape, its luster. This work can never be remade identically.
No impression, no reproduction, no artificial intelligence. A constructed work, numbered and delivered with its certificate of authenticity and dedicated on the back.
Presentation
The art of pixel pop.
“I deal with the constraints of brick as others deal with painting."
Gregory, aka BBB, doesn't paint: he builds. Brick by brick, pixel by pixel, he assembles art with patience, precision... and a certain playfulness.
Trained in interior architecture and technical drawing, he diverts LEGO – a universal, almost childlike material – to create a unique, vibrant, unexpected visual language.
His works combine technical rigor, subtle narrative, and nods to pop culture. From afar, a familiar image. Up close, a complex world. What he creates are slow surprises. Each painting reveals itself in two stages: first the obvious, then the strangeness, the detail, the hidden emotion.
It's an art of patience and pixels, a meticulous construction game that thwarts our perception. BBB revisits icons of contemporary visual culture—mythical characters, musical figures, popular heroes—and slips into them his own grammar, made of rhythm, silence, and graphic tension. He doesn't play with LEGO. He plays with complexity. With our gaze. With the pleasure of revealing the unexpected.
