Description
This abstract composition explores matter with mineral rigor. The gaze divides into two distinct zones. The upper part is dominated by a deep, earthy brown. The texture is dense. It evokes rock or ancient bark. The gesture here is contained, almost sculptural.
Below, a luminous transition opens up to an ochre red field. Vertical lines flow through it like roots or tears of paint. These traces create an organic rhythm. They bring a verticality that contrasts with the compact mass of the top. The light seems to filter through these drips, giving an impression of geological depth. The work on relief emphasizes a tactile approach to the paint. Each layer tells a long time. The palette remains sober and natural. The whole closes on a balance between stability and movement. The artist uses matte pigments to reinforce the raw aspect of the surface. The final rendering evokes an imaginary landscape, captured between the dark sky and arid land.
The work is created using a mixed technique combining oil, ash, resin, and pigments.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
