Description
The space is divided here into two distinct zones. A horizontal band, with golden reflections, fragments the composition. It draws an irregular, almost organic horizon.
The top of the painting is dressed in earthy and burnt tones. The material there is dense, worked to create a tactile relief.
Below, a deep brown background welcomes a play of vertical lines. These fine strokes, similar to grooves or frozen drops, bring a rhythmic structure to the whole.
The balance rests on this contrast between the dark mass and the luminous gleam of the central line. The chromatic palette evokes minerals and sediments.
The execution favors texture and depth. Each layer seems superimposed to translate a passage of time.
The light catches the asperities of the canvas, revealing meticulous work on the material. The whole ends with a discreet signature in the lower right corner.
The work is made using a mixed technique combining oil, ash, resin, and pigments.
Presentation
Rosario Galatioto has been surrounded by artists since his childhood. Indeed, his family, originally from Sicily, settled in the village of Gordes in the southeast of France and befriended Deyrolle, Raffin and in particular Vasarely, who were local to the area. It was in this environment, so conducive to artistic exchange, that Rosario Galatioto dedicated himself to painting, his perseverence encouraged by Vasarely, who witnessed the creation of his first gouaches. Over the course of a career that has spanned more than forty years, Galatioto has exhibited internationally at numerous galleries, museums, art fairs and exhibitions, whilst also working alongside architects as an interior designer. Galatioto's works are included in numerous art collections in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, the US and the UK.
