Description
The precise and rigorous line structures this dense architectural ensemble. Dwellings pile up in a tight arrangement, evoking the saturation of urban neighborhoods. The drawing plays on contrasts of gray and black, creating a graphic relief marked by systematic hatching.
At the heart of this concrete labyrinth, a rectangular frame is inserted like an open window. This luminous fragment breaks the chromatic monotony. One discovers a streamlined landscape where a red circle attracts the eye.
The composition questions the relationship between private space and the collective environment. The work highlights the tension between the confinement of structures and the desire for escape. Each line defines a boundary, each roof becomes a landing.
This paper work created in 2025 explores the memory of places and the geometry of constructions. The plunging perspective transforms the city into a complex mental map. The final rendering is distinguished by a technical sharpness that accentuates the mineral aspect of the surfaces.
Presentation
Yazan Abu Salameh is a Palestinian artist whose work explores how life under occupation shapes the spaces people live in and their sense of movement, freedom, and belonging. Working primarily with ink and mixed media, he depicts walls, buildings, military structures, and enclosed spaces, transforming them into reflections on restriction and the desire for freedom. His restrained compositions, often marked by small windows, openings, and touches of colour, create a contrast between confinement and hope, turning familiar surroundings into spaces for reflection.
Born in Jerusalem in 1993, Abu Salameh studied Fine Arts at Dar Al-Kalima University in Bethlehem from 2011. His work is informed by his close relationship with the Palestinian landscape and the everyday realities of living within a contested environment. Through architecture and space, he explores how experiences of movement, separation, and control become part of everyday life and memory. Abu Salameh currently lives and works in Ramallah, where he continues to develop his practice from his studio.
